Countdown to Race Weekend
October 6th and 7th, 2018

Valley Harvest Marathon FAQ

In our survey for 2016, runners would like to see a no swag option where they will not get a race kit. We now offer that option for those who do not wish to have a race kit but will still receive drinks, snacks and awards (if they qualify) post race. They will also receive avails of first aid, water / gatorade stations, porta potties, Acadia Facilities (showers, gymnasium) and free parking. Those who choose not to have a race kit will still receive a race bib and will have the services of Atlantic Chip for their run time.

Course questions

Our course is a sanctioned and qualifying course for the Boston Marathon. Strollers, dogs, roller blades and scooters are prohibited on all courses. Ipods and MP3 players are strongly discouraged but will be permitted. Please use these devices with caution if you use them! Our course has been described as being somewhat challenging. The 5 km route is fairly flat but the other event distances will encounter some hills along the way. The scenery and beauty of the course make the hills well worth it!

All races start at the Acadia Track this year. The ultra and full marathons start at 7:30 am; the half marathon start at 7:45am; the 10 km and 5 km marathons start at 8:05 am. If you require an early marathon start (for those that will take longer than 5 hours to complete) please be on the start line at 6:20am for a 6:30 start.

Where and when can I pick up my race kit?

Race kit pick up will be held on Saturday, October 6th from 12:00 - 7:00 pm and on Sunday, October 7th from 6:00 - 7:45am in the Main Gym at the Acadia Athletic Complex. We will allow you to have a friend or family member pick up your kit if you are unable to make it.

Are there age requirements for the events?

Runners must be 16 or older to register for the half marathon and 18 or over to register for the full marathon. Is the event capped this year? We cap the event at 3000. All racers will receive a race kit and finisher medal.

Do you have pace bunnies?

Yes, we do. White Rabbit Pacing will be supplying them so visit their website at pacebunnies.ca to see what is being offered.

If I can’t make it, what are my options?

Registrations are non-refundable and we are not allowing deferrals in 2018. We are however, allowing transfers of registrations to other interested participants should you not be able to participate. Transfers can be done through race roster.

Do you have a baggage storage area?

We do provide a baggage storage area. You can check in your bag with us on race morning in the Main Gym of the Acadia Athletic Centre.

Where are the water stops located and what is provided at these stops?

We have water stops approximately every 2-4 km along the route. Each one offers water and orange Gatorade. Gels will not be provided this year. Please bring your own, should you require them. The waterstop map is on our webpage.

Where can I get information on the race routes?

All route information is posted on our website at www.valleyharvestmarathon.com.

Will race weekend parking be a problem?

We expect Saturday and Sunday to both present difficulties for parking this year. Free parking is available at Acadia University on Saturday and Sunday for race participants so you can disregard signage regarding parking permits on these days. Please park in marked spaces. Anyone parked in fire lanes may be towed. If the Acadia parking lots are full, you can park on a back street off the main race course or in the Home Hardware parking lot. There is absolutely no parking in any church parking lots.

Will there be food provided after the event?

Yes, we will provide refreshments to all finishers. Please remember that absolutely no food and drink can go on the Acadia Track Area!! We have reserved refreshment tables for marathon and ultra finishers to ensure all the good stuff isn't all picked over!

Is the marathon a Boston Qualifier?

Yes, we are a sanctioned qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Are strollers, dogs and ipods permitted during the races?

Strollers, dogs, roller blades and scooters are prohibited for all events. Ipods/music devices are strongly discouraged but are permitted. Stay alert and attentive while on the course!

Can I shower after the event?

Showers are available to all runners at the Acadia Athletic Centre at no charge on the bottom level of the facility near the pool.
